Macron himself is pretty conservative.
Macron himself is pretty conservative.
Used to be the xenophobic party in my country didn’t get enough votes to get into the parliament (four percent of the votes needed). It managed to pass that limit in 2010. It did not take long for it to start to get even more popular. Seeing it get even more popular I said: “You know, the fact that they’ve gotten this…
You mean push them back for another 50-60 years after the generation that fought them dies out? I’m pretty sure we felt like all evil was abolished after WWII as well.
OK, sorry ! I hear so much bad french in american TV or movies, sometimes I don’t know what passes for good french...
We still have an ungodly amount of racists, misogynists, homophobes and other assorted bigots in our country. They’re not dying off, they’re teaching their kids to hate.
That too, but I was thinking of the business/marketing/finance crowd mostly, along with the coding/programming crowd.
Fuck that, no they didn’t.
That was a joke, not a good one obviously.
I love this man too, but no, his french is not impeccable. But then I’m french, so I might be biased (as we are soooo proud of our language and all that).
Macron is relatively harmless and not hated by anyone (but people who would already vote for Le Pen). Of course some anti-capitalist won’t find it in themselves to vote for him (which I can understand) but most of even the far-left voters will find it more important to block xenophobia at its purest.
And that sucks. I mean it’s great that (fingers crossed!) we won’t see Le Pen president, but holy shit how did we get here? In the 90s the NF floated around 15%; in 2007 they couldn’t do better than 10.5%. In 2002, the last time Le Pen made it to the second turn, Chirac won with 82% of the votes. And now they’re a…
‘Mildly critical’ as in ‘the only thing he and Le Pen agree on is that France should leave the EU asap’?
The disdain for the humanities among those seeking an education is finally showing the costs it has incurred.
Ahem...San Francisco Boomer here. When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, we thought this racist bullshit was done with our generation. All we did was shove them all back into their dark, dank closets for a few years. Granted, I lived in a bubble there, but damn - I seriously underestimated their numbers.
They have plenty of young blood, worry not. They are not going anywhere for a while, at least not in Europe. Can’t speak for the USA, but here the young are just as often becoming more conservative as more liberal. You’d be surprised how many youngish people are anti-immigration; I definitely find it surprising.
French politicians still have time to learn
It’s no coincidence that the funding for the humamities has been systemically undermined for the last twenty years
Part of the problem (in the US at least) is that the Democrats have turned their back on the middle class as well. You can thank Bill for that. When the common person doesn’t see their interests represented by your mainstream parties, shit like this happens. As much as it may pain you to admit it, the Democrats are…
Banding together? Like in the UK? Like in the US?
Lol
