I know right? Like she hasn’t earned her stripes? The fact that she is who she is and actually knows parties involved means nothing here apparently.
UBC is a public university and he’s def part of a faculty union, I would think he would have some sort of recourse to challenge his firing.
Caveat: do not know Canadian uni rules, but here in the U.S. a tenured faculty member does have a property interest in their position that extends them due process in the event that the institution attempts to remove them from that position.
I think that’s totally and completely reasonable as a reading, in normal circumstances.
Disappoint how? By calling for transparncy and due proces? If that disappoints you, the problem isn’t the Internet.
A strawman, apparently. I’ve never heard anyone claim that literally 100% of rape accusations are true.
There is a difference between saying that the accusers are lying and saying that they could be lying.
It sounds like he was found to have done something, just obviously not all of the accusations, or there would have been police involved.
If you read the actual letter, I think that you’ll be put at ease more. It’s not anti-victim at all and they’re not claiming that he’s innocent.
It shouldn’t be a disappointment that she’s calling for due process. How many times does she have to prove she’s a feminist, and an ally, and for equality?
She’s not saying that the accusers are lying. She is asking for greater transparency so that people have access to information that would help them know what the truth is.
I’ve never been a bigger fan of Atwood than I am right now. How anybody can criticize a push for fairness and transparency is beyond me. Thankfully she’s well above the twits attacking her. They’re like flies to a giant.
There’s nothing wrong with asking for fairness and transparency.
From the linked article:
How, she’s objecting to the school being secretive and the situation.
I’ve heard Atwood talk on numerous occasions... she’s as sharp as a tack, and a pretty hefty moral anchor. Frankly, I’m comfortable that she’s considered the granular detail and scope of the situation, rather than trust a couple of newspaper articles that suggest otherwise (or the topic generally, which obviously…
I too just read the headline
She’s asking for fairness i dont see whats wrong with that.
“unsubstantiated and unexamined.”
