Lauren you’re fantastic. You have a ton of golden nuggets throughout this piece. My favorite is this: “the Saints were the beneficiaries of a rare Browns mistake”. The Browns are based in a city known as the Mistake on the Lake.

My wife was commenting on that today. She was having flashbacks to the days when the only people watching the Saints were my wife, her father, and a couple of guys with bags on their heads.

Isn’t their Vegas Stadium a Dome?

Tony Roma replaced Gruden in the Corona commercials; will he next replace Gruden as the Raiders head coach? Rumors start now!

It actually makes sense. Like, have you ever sharted, just a little? The mistake most make is to freak out and try and clean up. The right move is to actually lean into it and explosively and excessively shit your pants. People will think you’re a lunitic and the stench will scare most off, and that’s when you strike!

I don’t even have kids and I do this many Friday nights and it’s wonderful. i feel like it helps me enjoy the fun things I have planned for Saturday and Sunday more because I’m rested and ready to go out.

Also add in crushing boredom for long stretches of time, punctuated suddenly and unexpectedly by short bursts of mortal peril.

And here I was thinking the military method of falling asleep anywhere was wake up before dawn, run until your CO pukes, and get back to your bunk 3 hours before dawn.

I served prior to 9/11- no one went out of their way to thank me then and it didn’t bother me at all. I actually try not to bring it up now in passing conversation because it drives me insane when some random says “thank you for your service” in an almost automatic-repetitive manner.

manufactured patriotism. which is unfortunate because the more commonplace it becomes, the less meaning it will truly have. pretty soon the anthem will be playing when the WALK sign comes up at a crosswalk.

And yet the troops can’t get adequate good quality insurance. Americans are the king of empty gestures.

You can't possibly be that dense.

I am not sure that even qualifies as code.

I am white. EVERYTIME I head another white person call a black person a Thug, I assume it’s code for the N word. It surely sounds like it to me.

#NotAllUsesOfThug

Of course not.  It’s about the Troops.

It never was or will be. I learned this firsthand pretty quickly when discussing this subject with a fellow NFL fan that I’ve known for years, . It only took about 3 questions in before dude revealed what is truly behind his anti-kneeling stance. He just doesn’t respect black people, or how they may experience life

When I was poor and complained about inequality they said I was bitter; now that I’m rich and I complain about inequality they say I’m a hypocrite. I’m beginning to think they just don’t want to talk about inequality.

WHY DOES JERRY JONES HATE THE TROOPS?

Thrusting your right arm stiffly forward and slightly upward is for the pledge, but hey let’s not dredge up that unpleasantness.
