I'm offended by anyone being offended by a gift off the registry, especially if the gift-giver is just trying to make their gift more personal and meaningful! The majority of people who can actually afford to have a wedding and register for gifts don't even need them. To be offended by a gift not on the registry list

Well said.

Because a woman getting drunk is not a "risky behavior", such as flashing $100 bills. It *feels* like it is, or should be, in this world we live in. But that's just rape culture's voice in our heads. A woman getting drunk is not a risky behavior. She isn't inviting anything by getting drunk.

"If anyone can figure out a charitable interpretation of that statement, could you let me know? I'm coming up empty."

This brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad you can trust men now, and I'm also glad you let yourself hate father's day.

Thank you for showing a picture of 2 women getting married. I get so tired of gay rights only being associated with gay cis men all the time.

"Lindy's intent may be that this is for the shitty people out there who just aren't willing to learn, but that's not how it reads to me. To me, it reads as a license for any and all feminists to tell any and all non-feminists to fuck off..."

Yep definitely not less. Plus the average age of "entry" into prostitution (i.e. pimp who devotes 100% of his time, energy, resources on recruiting vulnerable girls and either drugging, forcing, talking them into it) is now 13 years old in the U.S.

There is so much bias in this "study" it's ridiculous.

When was the last time your parents - or anyone - encouraged and/or tried teaching you how to protect yourself from getting mugged, or car jacked, or in a fist fight...or protect yourself from being robbed, or stabbed, or from harassment, or any other crime? The answer is probably never. We only worry about teaching

She looks hungry, not happy, to me.

I agree. Not to bring it down even more, but this shit happens constantly, every day in every city in this country. It rarely gets reported.

You're right. Since we can't find an easier way to describe celebrities like the Kardashians, let's keep using the phrase fame whore, which blatantly minimizes the experience of a group of people.

Fame whore is just as unacceptable and problematic as bitch, slut, and whore. Throwing words like whore, pimp, ho, etc. around completely trivialize the reality of prostituted women and the men who sell and purchase women and children for sex (generalizing the overwhelming predominant gender dynamics).

Yes. Thank you.

To quote Vednita Carter, prostitution is not the world's oldest profession. It is the world's oldest oppression.

Oh Lindy. I just love you.

Seriously! My thoughts exactly.

I agree there is plenty of racism hurled at the Obamas on these message boards and that a lot of it comes from white feminists who are ignorant of their racism, be it overt or covert. But, aside from the fact I don't identify as a white feminist, it's not in this case. Speculating that the first lady feels alone in
