I did not know that! Interesting. I might have to check it out regardless of the violence, then. *sigh*

I have NOT seen Another! Thanks for the warning. I’ll check it out, but, uh, cautiously.
Yeah I certainly can’t recommend it. It’s not a particularly good anime to be honest, even if we forget all the horrible death scenes.
Here in the States every single time a serial killer is caught, his neighbors say “Oh, he was always the nicest, most quiet guy. I never believed he could be capable of this!”
Maybe Japanese people just have a better lid on the separation of fantasy and reality. I mean, you know, I hope.
I’ve seen Elfen Lied and Baccano, and while both are certainly violent, the content doesn’t reach the same level as Blood-C. Only parts of the first episode of Elfen Lied and the scene where Eve tears off Nana’s limbs were disturbing to me, and the only scene I didn’t like in Baccano was where Rail Chaser/Vino…
You’re probably right!Although I doubt I’d include the Final Destination movies in that list. I’ve only seen the first two, of course.
Saw/Hostel/etc? I have not and will not ever see those films. Torture porn is not my bag.
I’m not one for censorship usually, although I do think society has something of a responsibility to reduce the amount of violence young kids see. Their developing psyches can clearly be influenced by what happens to them in their early years, and I think keeping horrible violence out of their minds will *probably*…
I have no idea how to respond to this.
You’re right, of course, but age ratings don’t work. Granted, Japanese parents are for the most part significantly more responsible than American parents, but kids will watch what they watch, and parents can’t always control that.
I...don’t think I’d like to see that show. The original Hellsing was fine, just fine.
I make it a point not to look for guro content, but I am absolutely sure you’re right.
I don’t necessarily see a problem with people creating works to explore the state of death and what not, but this, I think, goes beyond that. It wasn’t deep or thoughtful, it didn’t seek to start a conversation about death or…
Honestly, not a lot. There’s one scene in particular, really, during episode 9 of Season 2, which struck me as being something only Production IG would do, following Blood-C. It is unnecessarily cruel and gruesome.
But that’s really it.
Indeed, I completely agree. I think Prod IG shot itself in the foot with that series. The movie didn’t do a lot to generate further interest in the franchise, and it’s basically just sat around in limbo ever since. I think it might be a while before they trying anything else again with the Blood series.
Significantly, yeah.
Hah! Well Blood and Blood + were fun and fine, just fine.
Blood-C is violence for violence’s sake. They made it so horrible because they could. I just don’t know why they would.
Yeah I seriously doubt any of the titles on their black list need to be banned other than Blood-C, for violence’s’ sake. The others involving sexiness and political dissent are obvious, of course. Somehow the Communists in Beijing are even more terrified of boobs than the Christians.
Right? The whole scene in Elfen Lied where Eve escapes was one of the most violent things I’d seen when it aired initially, especially the callous killing of the clumsy secretary. Don’t get me started on the bit with poor Nana’s arms and legs. Horrible!
Blood-C took that show and shit all over its face.
I don’t think it’s bad necessarily but I think it does speak to a troubling desensitization we here in the States have towards violence in the media. It’s obviously a huge issue, but I like to look at the model that most of Europe has when dealing with Violence and sex in games and movies/television.
In Europe, the UK…
Yeah, the censored version is substantially different in what can be seen. pretty much all the most horrible stuff is hidden or cut.
I have no problem with violence. For example, I have no problem watching that guy get pinned down by the Cat-beast and having his head stomped on. That was bloody, but not altogether horrible. It was quick. Boom-dead. I didn’t even flinch.
I DO have a problem watching a girl get torn apart at the groin while she…
