It IS one of my areas of expertise. Most store POS systems can work in off-line mode as long as the power is on. Some stores choose not to invest in that capability. You can always run credit cards the old-fashioned way if you choose with a card swiper or by writing down the numbers to call in later, though that does

When I turned 16 in the 90s and bought myself my first (extremely used) car, my dad folded up a $20 bill and tucked it into the owner’s manual in the glove box. “Always keep $20 in your car,” he said, “You never know when you’re going to forget your wallet and have to pay for a tank of gas.” (Sidenote: remember when

My grandfather attached a empty metal film canister to the bottom of the removable ashtray in his 1966 Dodge Dart arm rest. That’s where he kept a $50.
None of those things exist anymore.

A wise man once said “the numbers are made up and the points don’t matter”
The math is skewed and they made numbers up for “opportunity costs” but no mention of general maintenance costs on an ICE car? I usually have to do 2-3 oil changes a year depending on how much I drive, which, if I go with the recommended full

Man I couldn’t get gas for $2.82 where I live if I stole it.

ok, I forgot about Texas, it’s a rats nest of regulated and unregulated.

This seems a bit off. In Hawaii, electricity is so high (45 cents per kwh) that it’s cheaper to drive an ICE. In the rest of the country where it is 10 to 20 cents and gas is in the $4 range...

Electricity is regulated. They can’t just increase their prices or drop them. Standard rates are approved by the state energy regulators. If you contract outside of standard rates (where rates are not regulated) you can always opt back into the standard rate.

This is an anti EV thing that AEG’s been pushing for years, even Jalopnik’s sister site has an article debunking this https://cleantechnica.com/2021/10/26/about-that-scary-evs-cost-more-to-fuel-study-not/.

My Kia PHEV and my Kia EV both came with a Level 1 charger, but ain’t nobody got time for that. My PHEV could charge overnight (25 miles of EV range), but my EV would take like 32 hours to charge at that rate. I upgraded to Level 2.

We did a major remodel to our house in 2021 and made sure to run a 220 line to our garage while all the walls were open.  We dont have an electric car yet, but doing this ahead of time saved us a ton of money as well as being able to hide the line.

It cost me about $300ish to have an electrician add a 50-amp plug in my garage (minimal run because it’s right next to the breaker panel). Then, the charging cable cost me another $300. When you buy the cable, get as high of an amp as you can. Your car will only draw what it can use, but it will future proof you. My

Kinda weird to mention that repairs cost more when in fact one of the biggest benefits of owning an EV is how much cheaper the maintenance is over time since EVs lack many of the parts that you’d have to replace on a gasoline vehicle. I do love how much time I save not needing to care about oil changes and smog checks.

similar story fr me not having used gas until well into my 30's.  But induction is pretty rad.  Can get a similar heated and slightly different but good enough char just by putting pita on a flat pan on high.  Surface gets blisters, yum.

Yes there is.  And everyone will have a slightly different definition of hobby, sport, and pastime.  But it’s an interesting discussion to try to find a line or common definition.

Welcome to the wonderful world of class action suits.  The only way to get rich off of them is to be the law firm bringing the suit.  Otherwise, you probably get enough for  pack of gum.

Our library even has a collection of board games you can check out!

Yeah, I mentioned that at the end of my comment.

I used to routinely freeze goats’ milk - it came in packaging deliberately designed to make freezer storage easier. Never noticed any difference between the fresh and the frozen.
