agreed, this is the real reason it flopped in the US market, they gave us the neutered version when compared to the JDM Type R EP3 and so potential [HP-sensitive] buyers looked elsewhere eg Acura RSX-S

I restored a 1991 4dr Ford Sierra, which is the less powerful more passenger friendly version of this car... what a waste of time, but hey, I was young and stupid.

My problem would be that my wife would want to Drive AND Navigate on her own... or backseat drive me from the navigator's chair which would be just as productive :-/

Respectfully disagree in certain situations. My folks live at the top of a hill with few streetlights and some bad quality road. This one gets my vote, combined with assholes with aftermarket HIDs that seem to be so shoddily installed as to angle straight into my mirrors/eyes.

Blasphemy/humor aside, one reason this would never catch on: Torque... or the lack thereof. Most of the cars you mentioned are much heavier than the donor car the smaller engine came from. Making a small torque-less engine lug a large load negates the mileage benefits of such an unholy swap.

I tried that, but since I would be waiting too long, I just went with the CX5 and called it a day :-/
