Achievement: Crash into jet dryer under caution and set track on fire.
While neither reference is exactly new, it must be pointed-out that not even Pastor Maldonado managed to hit a jet dryer and set a track on fire. That’s a hell of an achievement to unlock...
I like your thinking!
I’m with you except I’d suggest a supermotor instead of a Ninja... with a $60 set of hand guards a sumo is about impervious to drop damage, Ninjas still have fairings.
While we’re beating that horse...
NO! You go stand in the corner until you’re sorry about what you said!
Which makes me wonder if the gearbox failed and locked the rear wheels just slightly ahead of Monger. If he was 3-4 positions ahead it’s possible that the flaggers/race control simply didn’t have time to respond. I’m sure there will be more info coming out, best wishes on a speedy recovery.
I really don’t see where it would make a difference to Bernie even IF he was still running F1, it’s not like Alonso’s really driving this season...
It gets kind of sticky with FIA mandated testing limits. I’m guessing McLaren wasn’t allowed to be involved in testing in any way (I’m guessing here).
Does it really matter what the car is if it checks the following boxes?
I heard (from Autosport via Formula1blog podcast) that a big part of their in-car failures is that Honda doesn’t have a way of testing the engine under the lateral loads of an F1 car. It may sound trivial, but it can effect everything from lubricant flow to side-loading pistons. When you are designing something to…
You just described why I most identify with Hammond!
Baby steps...
I was thinking either that or the track would struggle to break even decayed of the sanctioning fees and price escalators he put in place.
I’m actually familiar with several of Fluke’s thermal imaging devices (I work in equipment calibration), anyway sorry for misunderstanding your question. Yeah, you’re exactly right about a lockup causing a spike in temperature at the point of contact when the tire is sliding (hence the smoke).
Close, it was actually to illustrate tire temps. Sometimes there would be other parts of the car in frame that were apparently in the temperature range to make it onto the overlay (the radiator is visible through a breach in the side pod in the clip of Alonso and Kimmi).
It’s a thermal imaging overlay to the video feed.
This is exactly what F1 has needed for years! Things like this are exactly what I was thinking of when I said Bernie needed to go for years. He may have been the guy needed to “professionalize” the sport, but he just wasn’t equipped to lead it into the modern media environment. A good example is the Bill Burr…
