At least F1 has the excuse that quieter cars were the unintended result of going to V6 turbos, they didn’t intentionally make their cars sound like crap. Love the Hesketh Racing pic!
I’m seriously expecting those “BOLD NEW RULE CLHANGES” before 2020...
Sometimes a funny joke is a funny joke...
Before I answer this let me get a couple disclaimers out there (because this is the internet after all): I’m not an expert in aerodynamics or F1, I’m just fan who’s fluent in the tech; I’ll over-simplify the explanation just for ease of communication and things might not be 100% accurate, its just to convey the idea;…
Yeah, you’ve probably got us beat in Subaru saturation.
Its all about the ratio of mechanical to aero grip. According to Hammy (breaking-out in hives for saying that), any gains from the wider tires have been more than exceeded by the new aero gains...
Dammit FIA, you’re making me agree with Lewis Hamilton! Just about everyone with any opinion on the matter said the cars need to increase their ratio of mechanical to aero grip and you’ve redesigned the formula to do the opposite...
Logical me agrees with everything you said about the Forester or Outback being more care for about the same money, but the Crosstreks just look so damn neat. Even though there are a ton of them on the roads (I live in Northern Utah so double however many you see) and they still manage to stand-out from the crowd while…
Don’t be ashamed, I’ve liked them since they came out. Whenever our ‘99 Forester (dog car/winter beater) dies there’s a very good chance it will be replaced by a Crosstrek.
But she also HATES driving... I was going to suggest a 1980's Jaguar with a mountain bike on a bike rack. The Jag won’t run long enough or often enough to build enough speed for any significant crash and she can use the mountain bike to get into nature.
Just watched that clip on TG’s top 40 last night!
Good point. I wonder if it starts and could move under its own power (you know, assuming it still had a right front wheel and all...)
I agree! That quote alone made an otherwise great article worth reading.
OK, I’ve never done this (can’t stress that enough) but it is the worst car-revenge I’ve heard of. An acquaintance in high school (a friend of a friend) used to swear that a syringe full of tuna oil injected into seat foam makes an unholy aroma on a summer day. One that the victim will go nuts trying to get rid of.…
Or, if it happened to be a 993, happily pirouette into a tree with next to no encouragement...
You got me. I was mostly talking about the simple “they should only take 5 minute” jobs that too many manufacturers make way more difficult than they should be... Things like replacing an alternator, spark plugs, accessory belts, etc... I know those barely count as repairs to most people on here, but too many…
Someone yesterday (in reference to the Merc T-Wing) speculated that it might be to disturb and pull air off the rear wing at speed, effectively acting as a super-DRS that works all the time and not just in the designated zone. Or it could be to direct more air onto the top surface of the wing and increase the…
I’ll give you the PITA of valve cover gaskets or head work on a DOHC 2.5 (the SOHC’s are a little easier) but I’d rather do just about anything other maintenance on a EJ series engine than on about any inline 4. Everything else you might have to change is just so much more accessible than most other manufacturers’…
But will it have a doughnut optimized suspension?
