Totally external party here, but my guess is about conversion. My understanding of Judaism is that they don’t try to convert people. They’re not about masses of people all obeying, it’s more about thoughtful living by those within the group.

The best dog owners I know definitely treat their dogs like dogs. They love them and spoil them with nice food and stuff, but they are animals with boundaries and expected to respect their place.
