I’m an asshole who’s right

Thanks, you just saved my keyboard from a lot of rage-typing!

I’m going to go all “AND ANOTHER THING!” again.

His seat is secure as long as he wants it ( his family is heavily involved with both his team and his sponsor ). He is taking absolutely zero risk career wise by opting out of ovals. If he doesn’t want to do it anymore, that’s fine, he doesn’t have to, but lets not pretend he’s risking his career by doing so.

Also going to add a fun fact about the Hanford device and car speeds.

Slow your roll, Blackstock.

Not to mention at the halfway point of the 2014 race - in which the first caution came three-quarters of the way through - the average as of lap 100 was over 200 mph.

It’s time IndyCar starts to address safety?

I agree with your point that maybe this is more of a dig against Carlin than with IndyCar. Carlin did not have a good car at Indianapolis. And, to your point, Chilton hasn’t had a good season, overall. There’s a lot more to look into here than just oval track safety.

Mike Conway had a huge crash at the end of the 2010 Indy 500 that he was lucky to walk away from. I can completely understand his apprehension.

I wouldn’t be quite so fast to praise F1 for their safety advancements following Senna’s death, honestly... it wasn’t nearly as pretty, smooth, or rapid as you imply here. The dragging of the feet for years on a dedicated safety crew is still unacceptable to me.

At the 2019 Indy 500, average race speed was 175.794 mph, while the qualifying was 229.992 mph. Twenty years ago, average race speed was 153.176 mph and qualifying was 225.179 mph

So much this. Took my girls (7 and 4) to their first hockey game a few months ago. This was AHL. Before the game we were looking at the Zambonis parked by the side of the rink and the security guard kinda laughed and gave them a little wave. We head back to our seats and about ten minutes later the same dude walks up

This type of thing and little kids getting baseballs at baseball games are the high-water mark of humanity for me.

The valid reasons are simple.

The world is better for you being in it. Keep the strength, keep the power. I believe in you.

Thank you man. I’m incredibly sorry that you went through this and I appreciate you sharing.

One of the next great writers is here at Jalopnik. Beautiful story, I wish you the best.

Holy cow. I got goosebumps when I read his name and my heart skipped a beat when I saw the picture—I played rugby with Kevin for the University of Dayton club team. When the news broke I couldn’t believe it. As I’m sure you know, there is now a tournament held in his remembrance.

The image is from the HCSO. Best one I could find. No video that I saw. And we did this of our own volition, as we have in the past. It was not requested by anyone besides some readers who asked. Any tips should be sent to HCSO, please and thank you.
