That’s....wow. I would be livid.

I don’t have comparable lap times to say for certain, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a C6 Z51 with the 430hp LS3 was faster around a track than a C5 Z06 with the 405hp LS6, or especially the earlier 385hp cars.
Quite possibly! We haven’t really seen it go head to head with all out race cars much, so I’ll be very interested to see how it does.
This’ll be very interesting. The ID.R was much slower than the 919 Evo around the Ring, so...this’ll be interesting.
Yeah, absolutely. That’s kind of my point, the C6 generation had some amazing performance, this doesn’t really seem like they’ve made any huge leaps since, even with fancier tech and dual clutch gearboxes. Hard to beat simple and light.
C8 Z51 has Pilot Sport 4S
Nope, this was a C8 WITH the Z51 package. Should be pretty comparable.
That’s fair. I’m sure the C8 Z06 will be very fast, but as far as I’m concerned when they moved to forced induction on the C7 Z06, they moved it to be more of a successor to the C6 ZR1 and essentially removed the ‘Z06' car from their lineup (mostly because the big N/A engines weren’t going to be able to meet emissions…
How much stickier the 2012 spec Cup 1 tires are over the brand new 4S is debateable, but yes, it had carbon ceramic brakes.
I’m sure the C8 Z06 will be far faster, but it will also have 750hp or so. This was the comparo I was interested in. Track pack C8 with new tech and dual clutch vs simple light C6 Z06, both with ~500hp.
Sad that the new cars weigh so much more, isn’t it? That’s kind of my point. It’s disappointing they aren’t able to match that performance with all their new tech vs just simple and light.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable that the ‘track pack’ car should be getting compared to the track focused version from TWO generations ago, with both cars having similar power.
The C6 Z06 was on Cup 1s, not 2s. The new 4S on the current car shouldn’t be all that far behind. It had magnetic shocks just like the current Z51 and was one of the first cars with them, they should have improved the track tuning by now. Yes, it was much lighter, unfortunate that new cars do indeed continue to get…
Forget the C7 Z06...that’s a slower time than the C6 Z06 (7:22.68, 2012 car), which should be a much more comparable car. Both right around 500hp, and C6 had a manual transmission vs the DCT on the C8 which should be advantage to the C8.
Yeah pretty much exactly this. What happens when you try to design one plane that will replace the F-16, A-10, Harrier, and F-18, all of which have very different use cases? You get something very expensive that’s at BEST mediocre at all of their jobs.
I have a sinking feeling this is aiming for the superbike market rather than the midweight sportbike market that I’d like to see. I accept that an electric bike is going to be more than an ICE one, but I’m not paying over 20k for one. Something with the equivalent of about 80hp in a faired, sportbike form would be…
I wonder how much it cost to develop the Blackwing for...basically no reason? Unless it’s going to end up being evolved into a corvette engine.
Yeah the sound is fantastic. The mod to be able to keep the exhaust valves open on demand was one of the first things I did to mine.
I love my LS7. There are a couple known issues that need to be taken care of, but once it’s fixed...a giant, torquey V8 that really loves to rev up over 7000 thanks to the lightweight rotating assembly is a thing of beauty. And sadly, something that will probably never happen again in a production car.
