[Rep. Marcia] Morey [D-Durham County] said she recently attempted to talk with Republican House Speaker Tim Moore about some reforms following the mass shootings last month in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York. Moore said no.

Its amazing that Cops managed to take down a July 4th Mass Shooter armed with an Assault Rifle without firing a shot.

This is literally what “defund the police” means. They don’t need tanks, they need real training. We don’t need a 20 man swat response for a mental health breakdown - we need someone trained in DE-ESCALATION. Shit, they can’t be bothered to take out one active shooter even with their body armor funding, assault rifle

Iwanski said one officer tackled Johnson to the ground and another shot her multiple times” It sounds like we not only need to change the response to people in crisis, but we may also need to retrain officers to coordinate and collaborate with each other.

Good to know, I guess we should blame Apple for the terrible implementation of the Touch Bar, instead of Apple.

Touch Bar by itself might have been brilliant. Touch Bar replacing physical function keys on a so-called “pro” laptop was a horrible misjudgment of target audience. No amount of fancy tricks from the Touch Bar were going to replace physical function keys.

EA’s social/community teams are wild. I swear, it’s like they try to be the most hated brand out there with occasional reminders of how awful the companies “voice” is. Between this and the old “a sense of pride and accomplishment” bit it’s just like...does anyone on EA’s social/community teams play games? Do their

It was a seal, walrus is too big to toss around. Lots of videos of this but there is one in which the actually return the seal to land and the seal looked back and probably thought “I am NEVER going back into the water!”

This is a weird thing to get hung up on.

Somewhere in a box or file cabinet of old video, I have footage of two killer whales tossing a baby harbour seal between them, in Bamfield inlet, Vancouver Island.

This. Facebook and Google don’t have an army. They don’t have secret police. They don’t operate genocidal concentration camps used to kill and sterilize ethnic and religious minorities. They aren’t amassing a military to invade and conquer a peaceful liberal democracy next door. The level of maliciousness between

On the one hand, I don’t think TikTok is doing anything to collect data that Facebook and Google aren’t already doing. The behaviour is exactly the same.

What a terrible take....

Some other idiots used to wonder the same thing about Russia siphoning and exploiting data from facebook in the 2010's.

I don’t think permanently remote and/or hybrid work is just a trend. Offices serve a single purpose: control.

Hmmm. I’m a guy that is basically winding down his decades-long gaming hobby. I just got a Series X and I’m reasonably certain it will be the last console I ever buy...so that’s my perspective.

Microsoft just killed it. A true-gamer’s games showcase. Other than one choose your own adventure, it wasn’t about wannabe movies, it was about gameplay. Pure gaming goodness. Starfield went beyond the years of hype, it’s the real deal!

I actually wonder if putting invertebrates into the fish category wasn’t an intentional loophole - something the legislators found easier to defend (or have slip under the radar) than trying to pass a law aimed specifically at protecting insects and other slimy creatures (not that they didn’t - and don’t still - need

That at least makes a reasonable amount of sense, if no less eyerolling for how it started, since invertebrates also aren’t fish, nor are fish invertebrates.

It’s because of how the original statute was written. It basically shoved invertebrates into the “fish” category. The court just went said that if the law defined other invertebrates as fish, then calling bees fish was consistent with that.
