LOL! 35 here; I remember those kinds of phone calls. I especially liked when you’d slam the receiver down so hard you’d get the bell inside the body to reverberate. Also 37, and those phones were no joke! So satisfying to slam down and hang up on someone. And yeah you could totally bash someone’s head in with them! Loved it. 

The only way it could’ve been more on-the-nose is if he was wearing a green “I REALLY DON’T CARE DO U” jacket when he returned.

sweet. my dad broke those receivers a couple of times. that’s a phone slam alright.

It also made him look like a tourist, neatly foreshadowing his lack of connection to the place as well.

The amazing thing is that “hanging up” is still around as a term, when it used to be that you had to literally lift up the handset and hang it on its little hook.
