Jim - The noise over "bad seeding" may be less about the averages, but the number of "extreme" misses (e.g., it looks like 10 teams were 3 or more seeds different than expected). I'd be interested in how your data looks just measuring what % of the field was very badly seeded.
I'm curious if "experience" (as measured by age) is the right variable to measure with respect to this effect. Could it be "familiarity" — as in it's a combination of stability of the roster and the length of time the players stay in school? (Some teams of seniors are full of transfer students who are relevantly new…

I'd think the Cosmos are helped by the fact that many NY'ers have taken the 7 to Flushing to see the Mets or the tennis. So even if it is as much of a time-suck as getting to Harrison, it's a little more familiar (and makes the casual fan a bit more likely to see a game).
