Yeah, I’m a Bears fan and my dad had the privilege of being able to root for one of the greatest teams in history. Unfortunately, I was born in 87 and have known nothing but sadness and instead of bonding over games, sundays were spent in silence. The product is without question worse and less interesting.

I don’t know. That seems like it’d be a more convincing argument in a world where 35% of the country wasn’t looking at Trump and approving of the job he was doing as President.

This point is 20 years old by now, but, boxing, horse-racing, and baseball have all held and lost the pinnacle of the American sports landscape. It can happen. Over a long enough timeframe, it will happen to football, even if it isn’t laid low by its immediate issues.

Dear god, this comment:

I’ve lived in Boston for 15 years, but only recently been exposed to the ‘Irish Were Oppressed Too” excuse for casual racism. Reading about it is one thing, but actually hearing it outloud is staggering.

I teach at a college in Massachusetts and had a kid write a paper that made the same claim. F. No citations.

Ha! I have two black friends here in Boston who are stand-ups and both have had shows interrupted by the “Hey, the Irish were slaves too!” guys, including one who said they had it worse.

Over/under on number of times callers refer to “those people”: 8.5

Setting my alarm for 530AM to get the full 4.5 hours of Kirk and Callahan on WEEI with the HOTTEST TAKES. It’s going to be great. You’ll get Sully from Carver with his “I have a black friend” take. You’ll get Ben from Manchester who once sat in the out field in Fenway in the 1980s and NEVER HEARD A RACIST COMMENT, so

As a Red Sox Fan I would say that we need to impose lifetime bans on people using racist taunts against players. Period. No second chances. Also, anyone who thinks I am a Racist because I am from Boston is just as guilty of idiotic generalization as these drunken racists idiots.

I love all these “champions of the working man” cheering as people lose their jobs....

Forget racism; the logic behind that paragraph is so frighteningly dumb that this man should not be a paid writer.

A lot of people who live in the middle of the US love to play martyr to the coasts, and in fact play into their supposed prejudices. That’s bullshit, and stop it. California is coastal, and you would never have tasted an avocado if it weren’t for their farmers. Minnesota is about as midwest and flyover-ish as you can

Whoa whoa partner. I would never advocate living in Kansas.

I agree. Dems need to cool it with identity politics. Living in a very deep red area I will say that Dems do need to go way more left and they(us/me) really need to explain how Republican agendas do not in anyway help these people.

Yeah but then you have to live in Kansas with a shit school system and no museums.

They also need to tone down the moral arguments. The middle of the country is ready for change. They need to start explaining how little the GOP has really done for the middle of the country. Farmers need NAFTA and trade deals. Mexico is set to destroy our corn exports by switching to South American imports.

I used to feel bad that Len Bias died. Now I blame New England fans for the War on Drugs.

Let’s not forget that a man who grew up in New York who is a bandwagon fan of a Boston sports team is our president. We have elected literally the worst sort of person.

I don’t get this hatred.
