Lest we forget the purpose of the Detroit show, the L.A. show, or almost any show: It's organized by car dealerships to get people to buy cars. The press is secondary to the customer. Only over time did it build up as a big to-do for cranky autojournos.

My #1 issue when I went to the show last year was the weather. Its was way too cold and sleety for this Texan, and our walk from the hotel to the show was 30 yards.

No, all those businesses were sold off decades ago during Chrysler's previous financial crisis. It was a condition of the Carter administration's bailout, Chrysler got the money but had to sell their defense and aerospace units to protect them in case the corporation still collapsed.
