I think the only argument against it is that it makes it harder to exit the car if the cockpit is partially obstructed. See Grosjean’s crash where he was basically stuck in the car for a while because between the halo and the guardrail he couldn’t find a way to squeeze out.

It’s Europe, it’s pretty much the same thing as changing states in the US.

So long as nobody dive-bombed into the side of him in the first corner, which happens at Spa all the time even in the dry.

It’s also skewed by the fact that Autopilot disengages itself when it runs into something it doesn’t know how to react to.  If the driver then can’t safely navigate the situation, that crash is blamed on the driver, not Autopilot.  If humans could throw up their hands and ask someone else to take over when they get

If only the UAW could figure out how to find that inherent goodness in its heart, we could all live in happy harmony.

It’s the last time Hamilton had a competitive team mate, and it was the most miserable I’ve seen the man.  I think it’s the closest thing we’ve got.

I have no idea what I’m talking about? I’m about to cross 150k miles on a 400+hp rwd car with 245-section rear tires, and I drive it every day with traction control turned off. Not once have I lost control on the street, rain, snow, or shine.

Yeah, he seemed to really enjoy having Rosberg as a team mate.

I have an even better idea: never take your Corvette out of the garage. That way you’re guaranteed not to crash, unless you forget which pedal is the gas and brake when driving it a foot back and forth.

Haha, what? That’s exactly how Cars and Coffee crashes occur. Learn how to actually drive your car in a safe environment without the nannies, then you’ll never need them. Relying on nannies is how you end up being over your head and in a ditch.

While you’re not wrong, how many companies are coming out with RWD, manual, 2-seat sports cars these days? For that matter, how many of those have 400hp+?

This... actually seems like a pretty decent idea.  Someone tell me why this is a bad idea.

“Buy”, right.  This is Detroit, push one from around the corner.

I think the angle of the camera makes them look a lot closer than they are. I’d say they were at least 60' away from the truck, and any action would have moved the truck further away from them.

I think maybe they just realized that anyone driving a small, darty, manual sports car doesn’t actually need any of that crap because they’ll be paying attention to their driving.

I never thought of that. My car makes enough torque that it can cruise in 6th down to probably 50mph without needing a downshift. That said, if you’re slowing down from 80 to 50 you’re probably hitting your brakes and cruise is disabled anyway.

My guess is the acceleration falls off at high speed more than it would with an equivalent gas-powered car.  It’s pretty common in electric cars due to motor curves, lack of gearing, and (I assume) heat accumulation in the battery pack.

I’m not an expert, but typically an NHRA approved/sanctioned track will enforce safety rules to keep their certification.  One of them, as you said, is requiring various levels of caging for various speeds.  Typically at most tracks you’ll get 1 free run in regardless of having a cage or not, then they’ll tell you not

variability in reaction time can make a huge difference in the overall result, and the drivers say as much. That could explain why the Rimac seems to go a hair faster with every trial as the driver gets acclimated to the car.

I think you’re being optimistic there.  It should take the base models, but any of the current V8 crop will likely run away from it pretty easily.  But we’ll see.
