They are indeed digital. I've been contemplating a subscription for a year or so.
Offline maps are sort-of available by viewing the area you want to cache and then searching for, "ok maps". This will cache the viewed area. Google say the functionality is coming but this "Easter Egg" should work for now.
You can avoid tolls/highways under route options in Maps before going into Navigation. Not sure if that's what you were referring to...
Heads up: It appears this version no longer supports offline maps. I've never used it, and I welcome the Navigation UI update, but if that's something that affects you, I'd hold off.

The last of us. Hands down not only goes into my top 2013 list, but my top 5 games of all time. I haven't been this emotionally invested in a games story since FFX and that was 11 years ago.
On this note, I want to give mega kudos to Nolan North for playing David. I won't say much about him except David is NOT a typical Nolan North character. He proved he had range. Great performance.
