Could be his enormous ego too. MGS is a classic case of a developer believing their own hype. Much of it deserved for sure, which is what makes it all the more frustrating for its narrative flaws.

It saddens me that I suspect that Halo5 is the point where the multiplayer aspects ruin the single player experience.

It takes the waiter 45 minutes to list the specials, and when the food arrives it's a mix of entree, main and desert foods at once which just doesn't make any sense. It's nicely presented though.

I would argue that game trailers have more responsibility than movie trailers do, because as well as conveying tone, story and atmosphere they must also showcase gameplay, mechanics and other technical elements.
