Because it was one study and I think bigots are going to be bigots. Like, I don’t need to limit my life because other people are idiots.

There is no negativity behind this comment. I say it as a Seahawks fan and I’m not using this as an insult but Wilson is a major closet case.
OK. Read it. So we’ve got one study says that bigots tend to act more bigoted after hearing a joke which I’ll admit is not a good thing. Unfortunately, I was already operating under the assumption that bigots discriminated to a certain degree and that article doesn’t give me any reason to think we can’t handle race…
Oh man. That’s dicey.
See, unless you can draw up some concrete examples of how a racist joke “perpetuates racism” in a way that can be measured, I’m going to assume they’re harmless compared to actual racism.
“Do you really think that your (sadly not entirely) hypothetical interviewer sits down with a stack of resumes and says to themselves “today I shall make life harder for as many POC as possible”? Or do they start going through the resumes and discarding the ones that seem like a “bad fit” or “not what we’re looking…
It wasn’t even useful to me then. I had most of the ideas taught to me in some form or another way before I read that book.
I thought, and I could be wrong about, that was always in the “young adults” section of book stores. I never found the story difficult to follow and the language used in the book is pretty basic and easy to read. The themes of the book “justice good, racism bad” is more or less an introduction to teens to that topic.…
I don’t know how serious you are with this comment, but I do find it a little odd that so much attention would be given to a 55 year old book written for teenagers. I remember having this exact conversation in 8th grade and it kind of blows my mind that the prompt “Was Attitcus racist?” is being discussed by people…
I’m not up to date on the publishing story. Did it get forced through or something?
One is intended to make people laugh and other attempts prevent others from leading normal lives? Like most people who have spent any time in a comedy club understand this concept. Most get that a joke isn’t the same as not interviewing someone because they have a different last name or supporting racist legislature…
Ha! Watch his entire basketball career go down the shitter once the Rogaine stops working.
I mean, if it were actual racism I’d agree with your point but their race jokes - what’s the big deal?
I sure hope he’s able to overcome that and find success in his professional and personal life. :)
So this: ““People always think that because I’m a white female that I don’t deal with racism. And I don’t. But I saw that movie Jungle Fever. I get it. I love black-and-white movies.” is actually a funny joke and I question your ability to judge comedy if you don’t recognize that as fact.
I think it’s the usage of the word “crush” that kind of weirds people out, but I’m only guessing because I’m not weirded out about it.
uhhh, we? I hate (love) to sound like a cultural elitist, but if you’re over the age of 18, you really shouldn’t be turning on MTV. I mean, if you want to indulge in it every now and then like I do McDonald’s or Taylor Swift song, then sure I get it. But past that, MTV shouldn’t be disrupting your Thursday nights.
“I’m here for the gangbang.”
And we haven’t made a movie about this guy why?
I could not care less about this situation as it involves some noname on the E Network, a Kardashian and the opinions of a 16 year old, but the Jaden Smith disses were indeed funny. I liked Kylie’s more than Cohen’s but both were coooooold bloooooded.
