It not only slows recovery this time around, it practically stops the recovery entirely. Additionally, it seems that even basic baddies can and will guard-break you as opposed to attacking your shield if you turtle up, and the results of that can be punishing.

Except it's not multiple lines of generic reply dialog, it's a constant stream of unique dialog right up until the point that they repeat the final line that they had to say.
