Thanks, I didn’t see your earlier post. Stupid Kinja.

I think you are misreading it, you don’t add the “buyback” and the “modification” numbers together, the buyback is what you get if you sell the car back (once you adjust for options and miles) and the “modification” is the payment you will get if you want to keep the car and have it fixed.
For TDI owners like myself that are anxious to know exactly how much VW will be paying for your car, here it is, broken down by model, year and options.
I don’t understand your point. Doesn’t the $100 million per percentage not fixed indicate that the government wont be blocking registrations? Because if they were blocking registrations, 100% of the unfixed cars will be off the roads, so the penalty would never come into effect. The penalty seems to indicate that the…
I’m guessing that this will be treated just like any other legal settlement, so the answer will be “it depends.” This pdf is a guide from the IRS on taxability of settlements. I presume that the settlement will be characterized as compensation for loss of value of the car, so, generally speaking, it will only be…
Alright, I guess I’ll stop playing coy. It’s a 1955 Triumph TR2, and it was bought new by my wife’s grandfather in 1955, and has been in the family ever since! It is not the most powerful car, but it is an absolute blast to drive.
I wish!
Close. Hint: It is still the original factory color, which was only ever available on this model.
I haven’t posted much here lately, but I guess now is as good of time as any to share the old Brit that I recently “imported” to my garage. Here’s my son trying to convince me he is tall enough to drive. Mad props to anyone that can identify the car.
I’ve taught a fair number of people to drive stick on quite a few different types of cars, and I found it easiest to use a 4x4 (in low range) on a loose surface. Manual 4x4s have the perfect combination of low-end grunt and low gearing, which makes stalling almost impossible when you are in the low range (especially…
A loaded new Range Rover [...] is one of the most off-road capable vehicles in existence.
Feel free to take my Jalopcard for this, but after getting a fair amount of seat time behind the wheel of my wife’s CVT-equipped Murano, I just don’t understand the CVT hate. From reading constant stories from Jalopnik and its ilk, I had assumed that driving that car would be terrible and that her car would be an…
I recently test drove one of these (looking for something to replace my soon-to-be-bought-back-TDI) and came away very impressed. Contrary to what this article says about the car not being “fun”, the biggest surprise to me was actually the “fun” factor of the car.
Yeah, on the one hand, it seems like they would have to account for some depreciation over the 2-year period, but on the other, they can’t come off as to punitive towards the people that don’t immediately sell their car back. Not everyone is in a position to just drop everything and buy a new car right away. I, for…
Yeah, I am waiting to hear the final details of the offer, because so far this sounds like it will be a pretty hard offer to say “no” to, and I am wondering if it is too good to be true.
If she is actually denied an emissions sticker, per the FAQ on the VW Dieselgate website, she should immediately contact VW:

The tickets are her's if she is willing to come pick them up. I sent you an email with my phone number - give me a call if you want to coordinate picking them up.
I know this is last minute, but do you have any use for a pair of tickets to tonight's basketball game? I can't use mine, and all the people I would normally give them to are tied up as well.
So much for that whole "fuck America, I never liked it anyway, and don't worry about me up here in Canada, because the US will never try to come after me" thing he put in his prior article...
