I think all of those things are what make the movie eminently watchable, though, and not “a mess” as you say. That conflict between who is right and who is wrong, who is a replicant and who is not. It’s the reason I’ve watched it at least once a year for the past twenty years.

The movie is a mess — it’s essentially the story of a celebrated slave catcher trying to kill runaway slaves. I don’t think Ridley Scott understood that, because once you notice it, there’s no way to see the replicants as anything but the only characters to side with. Deckard sure isn’t a sympathetic figure except to

These Black Men (we know some of the posters) are hanging on to any kind of superiority/privilege they can.

It always ceases to amaze me that men think they get to tell women what they find offensive, and that some women actually go along with that idea. It never ceases to amaze me that white people think they get to tell black people what they find offensive, and that some black people actually go along with that idea.

That’s from Michael’s article yesterday!

I think it’s to illustrate how ignorant of animals the people in that world are, as most animals have gone extinct. In the short story the movie is based on, ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’, the rich own animals and other people buy robot animals for prestige.

Thank God you’re here to tell women what words we are allowed to be offended by, dude.

None of those terms are acceptable, yet the people (usually men) like to pretend they are “compliments.” Whereas “female” is absolutely dehumanizing.

ROOO, girl you should have wagered money on this. Cause they are HEREEEE….to explain to us little ladies why being called female isn’t offensive at all. Which really translate to, “At least you aren’t being called a bitch, pigeon, or ho, so why are you complaining??” Also, it’s your fault since you won’t give us your

Ableism.

“There was no intent behind it, just an equal, non-sexist method of referring to soldiers of different genders.”

Yeah I’m going to have to call BS on that. Just because it is used casually, doesn’t make it ok. Does anyone ever say “have a male do it”? Nah, never.

You can try to frame it as a personal sensitivity, but

I call it the “Miss Anne Effect”. I don’t think the men (a certain demographic of Black men) realize that they do it.

Wow we had diffeerent experiences. I got female shouted at me often, I never heard someone yell, “hey male” come here.

I’m not talking about people who use female AND male with the same frequency. But people who use “female” to address women and “men/man” to address men.

“Have that female do this”

*waits patiently for #NotAllMen crowd, especially the subset who should really know better when #NotAllWhitePeople enrages them*

This is going to sound like I am Stretch Armstrong-ing it up... Being called a ‘female’ is annoying. But being called a ‘female’ while non-Black women are being called ‘girls/gals’, ‘women’, ‘chicks’ or even ‘ladies’ (which is said by the same men, who will call me ‘female’) is pretty-fucking-infuriating.

I’ve always felt that they destroyed all of Samantha’s personal growth by having her dump Smith in the first movie. It was illogical.

As I recall, Catrall’s character spent most of the last movie yowling about not getting any, rolling around in a vat of yams, and screamyelling up some monologued garbage that seemed largely designed to be a western white woman being the savior to a bunch oppressed brown women, who may or may not actually feel the

I met Kim Cattrall once at a special meet and greet through my employer after she was performing a Shaw play in Toronto (or maybe it was Noel Coward - I forget!). She was just so nice. She took time to talk with everyone and seemed genuinely thrilled that we came to see the play. She also looks great in person - age
