The Klingon Empire is old and big. Maybe the hairy, ridged Klingons we saw in Enterprise prior to the augment virus are actually hybrids of the hairless Klingons, with another, unknown alien race who was part of the Empire. or maybe an attempt to repair the Augment virus went wrong, and made them extra ridgy and bald?

Also as far as the cultural complaint goes, I wonder if there is a theological rift among the followers of Khaless akin to the Sadducee/Pharisee split in Judaism? The Pharisees believed in an afterlife, while the Sadducees didn’t. The Sadducees ultimately won the day, and their view is dominant in modern Judaism.

“who has a penchant for impulsive ideas which seem to fly in the face of the idea that she’s been raised by Vulcans”

Yeah, Space/CTV (CTV is Space’s parent company and they ran the first episode on their main network like CBS did) had to start late due to CBS’s late start, presumably because of a contractual obligation to simulcast it. Friends who DVRed it were complaining about the same thing.

Canada seems to be the only country in the world where you can watch it on cable.

Which is a big part of the problem. MacFarlane keeps insisting the show isn’t a comedy, so I don’t think they will go that route. If he completely committed to comedy, I think the show would bug me less. I recently watched the new Tick on Amazon Prime, and while Tick’s behaviour is absurd for a superhero, it works

Some of the NextGen movies had it more than others. First Contact vs. Nemesis...

We got Lincoln in the Original series.

In Canada we get to watch it on cable, we got the first two hours last night.

In Canada we are getting it on the cable network Space, who actually showed the first two episodes last night. Dunno what they had to give CBS to get that deal.

In Canada, Discovery will be streamed (but on an existing service, Crave TV) as well as shown on the cable network, Space. The first episode was also broadcast on CTV when CBS showed it last night.

Agree completely. MacFarlane just doesn’t have the acting chops. I don’t believe anyone would ever make him the Captain of anything. I think he would be better off playing the screw up helmsman, as that type of character is pretty much the extent of his range.

I don’t think McFarlane has the acting chops to pull off the role. Nathan Fillion is a better actor.

I missed this episode, so maybe this was explained, but I find this “The entire species is male, but they lay eggs” business very confusing.

I don’t see how a third timeline fixes the Captain Pike problem.

I don’t care if it is a ship of the line or not. He seems to lack the basic maturity and judgement required for command. He pulls strings to get a helmsman on board whose first act is to drink on duty because the guy is his best friend. When faced with disappointment he puts on a huge emotional display in front of

They didn’t axe Harry Kim in favour of Seven, they replaced Kes with Seven.

Thinking about it a bit more, I am left wondering if it had fewer jokes, and then Fox saw it and went “Where are the jokes? You’re supposed to be our funny man!” And made him add more in.

I get he is not an elite, but at the same time I have a hard time believing that someone with his psychological profile would make it out of the Academy.

And unlike McFarlane’s character, Sisko felt like he belonged there. McFarlane’s “bad year” excuse falls flat, when compared to how bad Sisko’s bad year was. Sisko handled coming face to face with the man he held responsible for the death of his wife (and much of his crew) better than Mercer handled the news he
