technically it wasn’t Nintendo who put up the preorders when they did. it was the individual stores/companies.

Well that’s not entirely true. I walked into my local game store (ebgames) and preordered mine. it was around 4pm. hours after the late night best buy preorders. it just depends on where you live. some places will be gone in minutes others takes longer. the same store about 20 min away was sold out in about 20 min.
