From the Actor's Studio interview he said that they offered him the money and he was worried it was changing peoples perception of him, along with his fame. I've seen it. It was more damning than anything I could find online. Don't get me wrong, the man is a comic GENIUS but his justification for his actions in that interview were weak at best.
