It’s particularly weird because the demographic makeup and political skew of the area would definitely make becoming an openly white prominent member of the NAACP an attainable goal. She didn’t have to do this.

I think that there is a separate question about vetting her racial background - that might have caused a lot of legal headaches for the Spokane chapter. Perhaps members had questions about her background but the reality is even starting that line of questioning would have likely had them run up against…

When I look at this woman, she doesn’t really look black to me.

I have black family members who look just like this woman, down to their freckles, and green and blue eyes, though their hair is darker. I wouldn’t have questioned her blackness.

As someone who went to high school there, I can’t think of any way of describing it other than this is the most Spokane thing I’ve seen in a while. I wish I was surprised. I have to say “offensive and hilarious” is a great descriptor for Spokane. It should really be the city motto.

If this is a real possibility, then I think my dog could totally use it. 8 year old basset, with arthritis, and erhlichiosis, so she pretty much sleeps 23 hours a day and can’t walk for more than a block :( But she still has her energetic puppy-like moments!
