Most museums would have to be stupid beyond belief to offer hefty local discounts at all hours because most of their visitors are local.

Last bomber ever? Perhaps this will be the last highly specialized bomber. But as long as we have wars, there'll be a need to strap bombs underneath fighter-bombers and drop them on the other side.

"... even the Chief Engineer's station will be located in the SMC during times of combat and intensive operations, not down in the engineering spaces."

As someone who edits books with InDesign, I'd love to see them create an InDesign plug-in with these features.

An iPhone 4? Isn't that a bit behind the curve?

I did much the same but far more cheaply. I plugged a multi-LED goosenecked light I picked up for about $3 into a USB slot in the back of my TV and aimed it at the wall. The result is a "theater bias light' that comes on with my TV at on fifth the cost of this one from Amazon.

Listening to audiobooks while you do other things—walk, jog, shower, or cook—is another way to slip in more good books.

Kindle v. iBooks is a wash for a user's own interests. Kindle ebooks run on more platforms but only on Kindle apps. Their ebook format is proprietary. Apple's iBooks may have DRM, but behind that is ePub 3, which will display on a host of third-party ereaders. Amazon's Mobi is dying and its KF8 will someday not be

Why not write about preparing for "South Pole weather" to hype cheap electric heaters? That's about as likely as getting Beijing-style air pollution here.

Interesting idea, but I find that setting a timer app for 15 minutes is almost perfect for me. When it goes off, I'm rested but have no problem getting back to work. Less and I'm not rested. More and I've dropped off enough, I have to wake up.

Two-way radios pretty much made it impossible for bootleggers to outrun the cops. What this turn is good for is shaking off someone with ill-intent, a road-rage crazy or a creepy stalker after a pretty girl.

I noticed the same thing when I lived on an Israeli kibbutz. The lunchroom had dispensers for regular and carbonated water. I went for the latter. Bubbles and all, it was more interesting to drink.

Someone who commuted from the snowy foothills of Washington state's Mount Rainier got it right when he pointed out to me that four-wheel drive was pointless in most situations. \

Ah, but you're not understanding just how blue, meaning unhappyt those "blue," meaning liberal, states and cities intend to make their citizens. Until August 2012, I lived in Blue Seattle, so I know.

Take it from someone who worked a college summer in air conditioning and occasional appliance repair. Don't assume that garbage disposal is broken simply because it doesn't work. They're designed to be rugged and don't die easily.

Agreed. Your iPhone is fine for more general health information and perhaps best used when you show it to a doctor or health care worker.

All you need to do to understand why Microsoft isn't the trend-setting giant it once was is to look at how Ballmer acts when he gets excited.

If you've got a smart thermostat and a heat pump, you might set it to warm the house up to about 60 or 65 during the middle of the day with the outside temperature is the warmest and the heat pump the most efficient. Let the thermostat stay at that temperature long enough for that warmth to soak in to the furnishings.

If you don't need the ice-maker, particularly in winter months, turn it off. There's usually a switch somewhere that does that. An ice maker can use up to 10% of a refrigerator's power consumption.

Hopefully, India will have enough sense not to buy the F-35, whose only noteworthy feature is that it's stealthy to microwave radar. According to the F-16's developer, the F-35 is so unstealthy to low VHF radars that Russia uses that an F-35 would be easily seen by the late 1930s British Chain Home radar (26 MHz).
