The ESRB has rated tamer games worse for the simple fact that you could see a bare titty on it. I’m pretty sure a buttslap would ensue an ‘M’ rating on a game. Because the ESRB has inconsistent standards, and it’s cheaper to just edit it out than to send a game in for certification twice, that costs money.

No, I’m not. As someone who has both worked retail and seen its application from a consumer perspective? No one gets carded or has any trouble buying E, E10+ or T rated games. Sell an ‘M’ rated game to a kid under 17 and there’s consequences.

Yes, I do. Because the ESRB has rated games ‘AO’ solely for being able to have mode support for naked ladies. It rated the Halo games, (which show almost cartoonish levels of alien violence) ‘M’ for more than 10 years despite never really warranting it.

The ESRB once gave a casino game an “Adults Only” rating for showing artwork of topless women on the back of its cards, no sex necessary... Just a static shot of a woman’s breast was enough to earn a game an AO rating. And before you go “Oh, but it’s a casino game...” The ESRB usually rates casino games E/E10+ or T.
