48% of women are female according to the ESA.

Actually, it wouldn't be a waste of time, because the issue is a matter of REPRESENTATION, not just "well, if you can't play it then why bother?"

Actually, yes you can.

Here's the thing, even AC3's animation director concluded that Ubisoft's "Well, it's really hard because we have to re-animate everything for women!" excuse was bullshit. Also, do you really think that a company with TEN different studios working on this game axed female models because animating one would be "too

You still don't get the point.

Thanks for the insightful reply. ;)

Uh, because women represent less than 20% of game characters that are lead player characters in games. Why would there be controversy over only having a female lead when EVERY OTHER GAME has ONLY male leads?

Except, that's what this is. IF you always are the main character then WHY CAN'T one of the Assassins in co-op be female. No matter how you try to spin it, whether it's not letting YOU play a female directly, or not allowing a female assassin as one of the co-op PCs, it still points out the obvious: These are excuses,

No, I really think that half of all gamers are female. AC isn't sold to a specific audience, it's sold to gamers in general. Including the millions of women who play games. A game's audience is GAMERS, not "___ players." Its fanbase and its audience are different things. One is established, the other is the potential

Uh, half of all gamers in the world are female. And the "catering to an audience" argument is irrelevant. Half of all gamers are female, it's safe to assume that a sizable number of AC players are also female. Regardless, there is no justifiable reason why females shouldn't be playable characters in more games,

We recognize the valid concern around diversity in video game narrative. Assassin's Creed is developed by a multicultural team of various faiths and beliefs and we hope this attention to diversity is reflected in the settings of our games and our characters.

Name all those other issues. Because, you know... Not representing half of its audience seems like a big issue to me.

BUT ZELDA IS THE GI— oh, I see what you did there.

GTA3 didn't, and GTA as it currently exists shares very little in common with GTA 1, 2 and their expansion packs/spin-offs.

Yes, they did. Coming from the animation director for AC3:

That's coming from Naughty Dog's animator who also worked on AC3.

REPRESENTATION.

Despite the fact that women make up half of gamers and work in the industry, they're under-represented within developers and as a result under-represented in games themselves. Right now men are running development for AC; men with very little interest in the idea of representation in gaming. Maybe it's conscious
