Says the guy that's never actually had to decide/sacrifice to start one.

Two things. First, I don't care if anyone thinks it is "#weaksauce". Like all of my jokes, I did it for my own amusement. If others find it humorous, well great, I'm happy to have amused, but it wasn't my intention.

Female game devs whose real names and faces and addresses/workplaces are known, getting hundreds or thousands of rape and murder threats, isn't the same as that time a kid yelled at you on Xbox after you won a game.

I'm glad more people are speaking out against the mob harassment many developers have to put up with. The right response isn't "Just get over it, ya pussies. Get some thicker skin." We shouldn't want every outspoken developer to have a hardened heart just to exist in the industry.

Hell yeah I'm still playing Sim City!

It isn't "the exact same thing", by any stretch of the imagination, and that you think it's a logical analogy displays the exact sort of immaturity and lack of critical thinking that gives gamers such a poor reputation.

So what you're saying is that if I call you "shit" for not doing your job, which I am paying you for, it's the same as not only harassing me in-game (probably simply for being a girl) and then going further and privately messaging me with threats of rape. Seriously, is that what you're saying? Because if it is, then

You OBVIOUSLY didn't read the article at all. It wasn't a simple case of "occasional shit talking" as you put it. He was shit talking on CoD, followed up with a text message, and further followed up with a voice message saying he was going to rape, impregnate, and then force an abortion on her.

Hahaha what? You have the gall to use the word logic in that statement? What she did is respond to a lack of action from a company whose services she pays for. It's not that microsoft did something wrong, it's that they did nothing.

Are you honestly comparing using the word "shit" to describe something to rape and abortion threats?

I say so, yes. When you don't have to live with this kind of harassment just because you're a woman (or another minority), it's hard to understand how constant and damaging it is.

Protip: if your response to this kind of message is "I don't see why she didn't just put him on ignore", you're vastly missing the point.

Sick victim blaming.

Just cause she has the ability to ignore what happened doesn't make it okay to do it to begin with. You have the option of ignoring the fact that someone raped your wife/girlfriend/mom/sister. Doesn't make it right to do so.

.. Are you kidding me? That's like saying you can just "delete" someone when they insult you in person. Yeah, shit happens, people say mean stuff, but they shouldn't get off scot-free because they say such things. They need to be punished, and it's a shame that Microsoft took such a long time to do that.

"But, it's online! Therefore, it doesn't count! I can harass and offend anyone I want because the internet is free!"

Wooo Content creator!

And yet when Kojima cooked up a similar idea, people thought it was cool. Go figure.
