You hit the nail on the head - planned obsolescence. When the internal battery inevitably fails, most consumers are forced to buy a replacement product instead of replacement batteries - which is what these manufacturers prefer $$$!

I think you captured some additional reasons here - some people say it’s minimal aesthetic, but to me it’s lack of personality/generic design in favor of cheaper mass production to maximize profit. Why would I reward that with my $?

No one else said it, so I’ll give this advice - be prepared to outfit all the toilets! We started with ONE bidet (cheap $30 Biobidet to try out) in my master bath.
