The Basilica of St Denis is one of my favorite spots in the Paris region for that exact reason. It’s full of beautiful marble tombs for the French monarchs, but except for the late Bourbons, they’re all empty, having been trashed by the Revolution. Their remains were all exhumed and then thrown into a trench and

I get this a lot when I teach. Despite the fact that it’s a survey course on European history, aka a pretty fucking white topic, every year there’s at least one student who says my class is all about “women and minorities.”

Yup.

Historical ghettos of the pre-modern era =! Hitler’s ghettos. And besides, those didn’t really exist anymore by 1939.

In earlier times, ghettos had existed as the only areas of cities where Jews were permitted to live. These were phased out throughout Western Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries as part of the emancipation of Europe’s Jews; the last, the Roman ghetto, closed in the 1880s.

“I can hear the glass crunching on Kristallnacht in the ghettos of Warsaw and Vienna when I hear (Trump’s plan), honest,” Weld said to NYT.

Hey, helping someone get Hamilton tickets AND undermining the capitalist work ethic? Sounds like a good day to me!

It depends on a lot of factors I think — matinee vs evening show, weekday vs weekend, even the weather.... I did it back in February, so it was relatively laid-back: got there at 8:30 am, and got a ticket for that evening’s show. I had to stand on line almost all day, but for me it was my best chance — it was three

Do you live in the city? If so, do you have a day when you can take off work/get up reeeeally early on a weekend? Because there’s always the cancellations line, which is how I saw it!

You mean, look who spent eleven hours on the cancellation line one day to get a ticket that she saved up for? Yup, guilty as charged of bragging about that.

Nah. ISIS aren’t Al Qaeda — they don’t pick targets just because they’re high-profile, without any local support. ISIS is fucking terrible because it relies on homegrown resentment and dissatisfaction, which it weaponizes. ISIS terrorists come from the communities they target, so they’re not likely to be particularly

I feel so awkward by how much I love Hamilton, because I only saw it a few months ago, and had stolidly refused any contact with it before. I thought it sounded dumb! I wasn’t going to be one of those white people whose enthusiasm for the show felt largely performative! I was better than that, damn it!

Just embrace your inner basic bitch and get a Longchamp Le Pliage. Sure, you’ll look like you just got an entry-level PR job through your sorority connections, but it is convenient as shit and holds everything.

If you’re a religious leader, and the best symbol you can come up with is a dollar sign, it says something about your priorities, no?

Either peeing, or doing a classic boyband lean:

Yeah, my heart dropped into my feet when I read that in light of the above: “Several women came into the group through Alcoholics or Overeaters Anonymous. They allege that SSM members occasionally attend OA meetings for the purpose of recruiting new people.”

Oh god, can you imagine if Helena’s just a cult, too?

Oh god, and Shana Kuhn-Siegel’s blog posts about The Process are something else, too. Her description of how Scherick helped her overcome her self-image issues is so manipulative it sets my teeth on edge:

If anyone’s curious, the website for “The Process” is saved on the Wayback Machine here. My favorite part is International Scherick’s logo:

I’m of two minds about this article. On the one hand, I love Beyoncé’s music and perspective, so much so that I find the dismissive shit she gets in comments here pretty disheartening.
