If every girl who wanted to become a ballerina got a Jezebel article devoted to her, I’d say that you were correct. But clearly they don’t, so the question to ask becomes, what is relevant about this particular girl to garner her international news coverage?

This is exactly the myopia I mean, though —the idea that the most salient conversation to have regarding this post is about the technical history of ballet, rather than any of the social issues that the article addresses.

As always, an article about ballet and some aspect of social justice brings in a troupe of people who snipe at the subject’s form. What is the deal with ballet? You never see this kind of sniping/ignoring the forest for the trees in other disciplines that get posted about here.

Krasinski and Blunt are both big fans of the President:

Except it’s doubtful whether these guys would qualify as prisoners of war, based on the Geneva Convention’s definition.

I liked “Dope Squad,” but I wish that they’d taken it that last, feminist step — the acknowledgment that they’re able to juggle it all because they can pay most of these people to help them out.

It’s all the more disgusting that this retrograde sexism likely doesn’t come from the students themselves, but from the alumni. When Yale’s secret societies went co-ed, there was a huge schism between the current members who wanted women to join, and the society elders who didn’t have a role in recruitment anymore but

All of whom were invading armies, with weapons, as opposed to desperate refugees, with their children.

Thanks, but I was quoting mekki there.

What’s happening “NOW” is a product of what’s been happening in Hungary in the last five years, with an increasing turn towards xenophobia and nativism in politics. That’s what all of these articles are explaining.

Plenty of people have been reporting on what’s happening in Hungary:

If anything, Europeans have an extra special claim to racism — after all, they literally invented the concept of race.

This woman was always a far-right xenophobe. That she’s reverting to type shouldn’t surprise any of us.

“a country that has a long history of people crossing their borders uninvited for what ever reason and usually ending up making life hell for native Hungarians”

White uniforms are standard for nannies in Brazil — I’ve never seen them in the states, though.

Yeah, I’m confused by how not-good it sounds, since he speaks fluent French.
