Also British “pubs” and American “bars” aren’t perfectly equivalent. There are US bars that operate on the publican tradition and provide full meals, in which case it makes sense to see kids, but plenty of US bars are just alcohol dispensaries and (rightly) ban children.

Oh, right, “Europe,” that single homogenous place where social mores and entertainment customs are exactly the same wherever you go. Sure.

The term “ethnic cleansing” doesn’t imply genocide, though — it’s the forcible expulsion or migration of minorities initiated in the name of racial or ethnic homogeny. That’s what it was coined to describe, in the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s.

Tack! ;)

Yeah, but the post’s wording itself was ambiguous about whether they were looking for a new word that would be a noun or a verb. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to know.

This is 100x better than when I was in first grade at a NYC school and had a whole interdisciplinary unit on.... bread.

Is it a verb (“I’d rather stay at home and klittra than go on another disastrous Tinder ‘date’”) or a noun (“It’s such a shame I didn’t know about klittra until I got to college — both for me and for my college roommate”)?

God, I’m not an Arsenal fan at all, but they really do have the best media campaign. Have you seen “Kieran Fibbs,” the series where Gibbs quizzes his teammates on weird trivia?

Oh, none of this is meant as a real insult to him. I do think he’s a sweetheart! Just — a funny, awkward weirdo sweetheart.

Clearly no one told Lady Gaga about Azerbaijan’s human rights record. :-/

Don’t forget Giroud!

This is... frighteningly accurate.

Madrileña refers to a resident of Madrid, while “madridista” is a term for supporters of Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid fans get very upset when you confuse the two.

He’s a striker for Real Madrid and the French national football (soccer) team. And they’re probably calling Rihanna a groupie a) because it’s ironic, since she’s a musician, and/or b) because she went NUTS for the World Cup this summer.

Never change.

Oh, I know this particular tabloid is French, but this story is all over the American ones as well. Hell, the fact that Bobby’s even writing about it on an English-language site is exciting enough for me.

As a Madridista, I am dying that our boy Benz is all of a sudden making news in the US tabloids. Like, from his horrible fashion sense, to his constant driving infractions, to the fact that he didn’t have furniture in his house for years after moving to Madrid, Karim Benzema is an objectively ridiculous human being,

Gives a whole new meaning to nipple clamps...

Because he’s a YA writer who dares to try and portray the experiences of teenaged girls? Because he’s an adult who dares to use social media, which is only for teenagers?

To be fair, based on this article it seems like it wasn’t “New York City legislators” who had the power to save this law, but the New York State Legislature and the governor.
