You forgot to mention people talking about how it’s pay to win (when it’s not).

And yet it’s called a 2D souls game. If you wanna call it a 3D Metroidvania, be my guest. My point is simply that when someone says Metroidvania without describing what the game looks or plays like, 99 times out of 100 people will assume it’s a 2D sidescroller. Metroid games borrow from Zelda. If Prime is a

Why is that so hard to grasp? Gears of War and Dead Space play similarly to Halo and Goldeneye but they aren’t FPS games, for obvious reasons. Why can’t people understand that genres carry a meaning that most people understand to be one way and not the other. If someone said so and so game I’ve never hear of or seen

Metroid Prime is NOT “generally classified as a Metroidvania”. It’s at best “arguably classified as a Metroidvania”. Also often cited as best in the genre? Citation please. Most Metroid fans in my experience say Super Metroid is the pinnacle of the series. To say that Metroid Prime is cited as the best Metroidvania

I don’t think Metroidvania is in itself a genre. It’s a sub genre. So the argument that it’s hard to explain to people who don’t know what it means (and don’t play video games) kinda falls apart a bit. For example, how do you explain what JRPGs are to people who don’t know? What is a role playing game? What makes

This list is missing Outer Wilds and DMC5.

That’s a good point. I’m surprise I never made the reality TV comparison. It’s pretty apt. Sometimes you’ll have high skill players teaching people how to make good plays and give advice to people. Sometimes it’s stupid people doing stupid things.

It doesn’t. It’s in reply to someone not understanding why people like twitch. You do realize that discussions in comments don’t always have to relate directly to contents in articles.

You grossly underestimate how much effort and endurance it takes to stream a video game day in and day out in a consistent way that pulls in viewers. It’s not just people sitting back and playing video games. Sure some people are like that. But Thijs for example is a top tier HS pro. Has the highest competition

I’m not saying they are close friends. I’m saying people like hanging out with them even if it’s a one sided relationship. Also, since I’m personally friends with a streamer (someone married to a friend of mine from college), it’s absolutely false that “those people” aren’t my friends.

Unlike the US, Japanese executives don’t make a huge amount of money and they do sometimes take pay cuts for the company. Iwata cut his salary by half when the company wasn’t doing well so that they wouldn’t have to do any layoffs.

Not really a stretch at all. People watch others playing sports all the time outside of professional sports. It’s really not a stretch to compare it. Your movie analogy is more of a stretch because both forms of consumption are passive, whereas playing a sport and watching people play a sport is much more comparable

Your analogy about painters and rock climbers makes no sense. No one is saying that people who like watching streams also like playing games. They are saying they can like video games in a different way. So to make your analogy make more sense it would be more like if you like watching Bob Ross, then you’d be a ran of

Audiobooks are books. It’s in the name. Someone who likes audiobooks likes books. That doesn’t mean they like reading, but it does mean they like books. And if you’re gonna argue that audiobooks aren’t books then you might as well say people who read books on kindle aren’t fans of books because they aren’t reading a

Sounds like you never bothered following a streamer and thus have no real grasp of the subject you’re criticizing. It’s not about let’s plays, not really at all. If it were then there would be a much more even distribution of viewers on every channel. But instead specific people get a lot more viewers than others. Try

So you wouldn’t watch him play D&D and answer questions in chat?

As for your last point, you are comparing all of Twitch to casual basketball? That’s ridiculous. There are plenty of pro gamers that stream and they are definitely playing it on a professional level. Plenty of people would go watch Lebron James or Steph

I don’t understand why it’s so hard to grasp people enjoying watching others play a game. You never watched sports? Do you have a hard time understanding why people would enjoy watching people play basketball instead of playing it themselves? You’ve never been to an arcade and watched people play a game?

These groups act like the term belongs to the Holocaust when in fact the term is much more general and existed long before WW2.

It’s literally what it’s called. It’s well known in Taiwan. Not sure where else in Asia has it. I’m sure it’s around. It literally smells like raw sewage.

So only let people who have climbed Everest climb it? Seems pretty exclusive to require them to have done the seven summits in order to climb one of the seven summits.
