It’s not as easy as you make it out to be. The attention to detail they had including having a Pokémon expert isn’t a low effort thing. 

Why would you adapt it for a home game when you could just play the original version that you copied it from?

Your experience is anecdotal at best. Plenty of game developers are underpaid compared to how much they’d be worth outside of game development, hence why a lot of them leave for other dev jobs.
