No. Directors generally don’t make that much unless they are also producers. Patty Jenkins got 1 million for WW and because that was a big hit she was able to negotiate up to 8-9 million for the sequel. Maybe you can argue she’s underpaid but I don’t think you can say 10 million is that low. 

It’s encouraged in the culture that if you gravely injure a person it’s better to kill them rather than let them survive. Otherwise you’re responsible for them for the rest of their lives rather than just paying some one time smaller fine/punishment.

It was the breakdown of the relationship between the mangaka and the editor which culminated into a drop in quality of the series overall (Kubo basically started phoning it in and the editor basically lost faith in him) which lead to its cancelation and thus the rushed ending.
