You don't have to. I played it on the PS3 as well. I have both PS3 and 360 copies. The 360 is far more glorious though. Look at comparison videos, they're true.

Digital artists do this a lot. They use the "framework" or silhouette of the image and create from there. Kind of a short cut but for the type of art he makes, it doesn't exactly matter since the important part of the piece is how he's able to create mech, not how well he portrays the human figure.
