“The same folks who engineer the Earth-spinning 6.7-liter Power Stroke engines used in F-250 and up trucks also worked on this mighty mini mill.”
Yeah you’re right about the F150 diesel’s tow rating. I remembered seeing it 6-8 months ago as 7k lbs and being kind of disappointed, I googled it before I posted the comment above and google said it was 7k lbs (without citing a source).
If it’s a first-gen Ridgeline, I doubt it would match an F150 Powerstroke on fuel consumption while towing. Most folks I’ve know who had the first-gen Ridgeline told me it couldn’t even do 20 mpg while empty.
Can that car maintain a minimum of 70 mph, or more realistically 80? Even up hill? Can it stop that beast in a reasonable distance? I highly doubt it. Sure you don’t need a luxuried up $60,000 truck to tow it, but any modern truck will do a far better job, and be leagues safer, than anything pictured here.
Airstreams are waaay nicer than a nice “normal” trailer in almost every way, but I agree.
I don’t know how much has changed. I’ve seen my share of 3-4000 lb SUVs and CUVs pulling 5-6000 lb trailers. Traveling 70+ mph no less.
Considering the average lack of driving habits of the American driver, I’d rather they tow with an overpowered vehicle.
Not based on US towing ratings they’re not.
You can beat the crap out of it so long as you make sure that the rear subframe bushings and mounts are taken care of. They have a habit of the bushing wearing out, and then the bolts ripping the mounts out of the car. Not fun to repair, believe me.
To become a lovely shade of pink in about 7 years of desert sunshine!
I don’t understand your love of Smart Cars, but I’m glad you have fun with them.
The 8 lug wheels are a giveaway that this is a hilux body on a beefier platform. DoD has been looking at these for a while.
No keyholes makes plenty of sense if it is indeed meant for military application.
“Seeing one here dressed for war is, uh, actually a little disconcerting.”
I can’t believe no one mentioned the Chevrolet SS?
Its the perfect option.
Plus it leaves 10 grand in his pocket.
the extra 2 years probably cost an extra ~4k. On top of the already inflated CPO cost.
It’s only one additional year, which makes the unlimited part mostly useless.
