I’ve thought that a National standard EV commuter car would be a good idea. One licensable design that any company can choose to build, only updated every five years, comes with waived registration, waived sales tax, and prime-rate loan. Make it easy and cheap for every family to have a one or two-seat commuter…
And when you have to race to the store for booze/ice, or to the hospital for your snake/bear bite, you have to strike your tent rather than just hopping in the car and going.

I just saw a well kept one the other day, and thought to myself that it was going to be a semi-iconic vehicle in another 10 years when people are making nostalgic/ironic “Aughties” movies.
You can see the movie, and a restored New Moon trailer, at Modernism Week in Palm Springs next year.
Unlike many an EV startup, Rivian seems like a top notch outfit. They brutalized their prototypes in South America, and the one I sat in at Autopia had top of the line fit and finish. No guarantees, but I’d make a bet on one if I was in that market.
