Look at the jobs on Association Forum's website. Chicago has a shit-ton of professional associations. People always want to work at agencies but a non-profit professional association can be awesome. PR, online content management, member relations—-they are all under the PR umbrella.

Me too. You're not alone. :)

I wouldn't be welcome to serve in Driscoll's church. I'm openly gay and in a longterm gay relationship. Guys like him frighten me. He perverts the gospel to protect a power and privilege God didn't necessarily affirm (the Pauline writings in the new testament clearly cast marriage as a lesser status, as Paul and his

Agree. I'm a person of faith, too. It's a mark of strength, maturity and clarity of mission and vision that Acts 29 has made this move.

Right there with you! Graduated in May with my PR degree...can't get a job.

Go make your dreams come true!

Amen and amen and amen.

One more piece of advice if you do go that route - research freelance rates and know what your market will bear. I had adjustable rates when dealing with non-profits, for example, but if I was doing consulting work for politicians, I made them pay top dollar. I had an hourly rate that was very close to my daily rate

You're welcome. That was the route I took, by the way, and it paid off in spades. I actually made pretty decent money at it in the first nine months before I was headhunted by an organization that gave me a solid position with benefits. And that job turned into an even better one. And when it came time to list

The one thing that unites us all is that assholes exist everywhere. I've known people from many faiths and have known a lot of atheists. I've found the ass hole ratio to be about equal.

Consult. Call yourself a contractor, get a small business license, create a website and business cards and connect with other small business owners. Get little contracts doing communication/PR work for them. Build your clientele and your reputation. If you have a home-based business, you can write off a portion of

I was like, what's the famous verse in Acts 29, why isn't that ringing any bells? Off to the Google ... It's because there are 28 chapters in Acts. The 29th Chapter is apparently this dude's ministry. Douchebro braggadocio wrapped in livid misogyny is the obvious next step for any good Apostle. I don't know why that

Good riddance. The guy was like a parody of all the things wrong with religion.

I live in Seattle ... this article elicited an outward BOOOOOOM from me. This guy and his hipster church confuse the hell out of me. I just don't know how they co-exist with this city, because we fucking hate it.

I feel like the problem with plus sized retailers is that they have to be everything to everyone. Smaller girls have more choice—fancier stores, more casual stores, ones that cater to older women, etc. Meanwhile, plus sized ladies have maybe 5-7 stores to choose from. And they use the excuse the excuse that fatties

And act out, sometimes in spectacular fashion.

I noticed you wrote that you were unable to intern while you were in school, but a lot of companies will still do an internship with non-students. They also tend to be pretty flexible if they're unpaid, allowing you to work around a paying job.

Hey, hang in there! Entry-level PR jobs are the toughest to get hired for. But once you're in, you're in. If you can apply to a bigger agency, many offer paid internships (with overtime) that take away the sting of being an intern with a college degree. That was how I got my foot in the door and got my first job.

Because personality and relationships are so important to the business, a lot of hires get in first as interns, since it's a great way to test how an applicant fits into the dynamic of the rest of the office. Also, padding the resume with related skills doesn't hurt. Example: a lot of our PR reps write or have written

Ughh, I hear ya on the interning. It's shitty and it really favours people who are financially supported by parents and spouses. The paid internships are more rare but they do exist.
Sending good vibes, good luck, and high hopes that you can get your Samantha Jones on soon :)
