Nope. the 2-d version of the game uses Sprites. There’s been plenty of sprites created in mods and so on to prove that. This is genuinely a 3-d overhaul.

I actually was able to play for the first time over the weekend because my friend is one of the 50 or so people who got into Onlywatch's beta... and I must say, I immediately went home and pre-ordered it. Totally hooks me more in my TF2 feels, but minus the hats.

and that’s what makes them such a good company imo. they aren’t afraid to say, hey, we messed up, or, hey, this isn’t ready.

Diablo 3 being a prime example of that. I personally enjoyed Vanilla d3, but, when it became clear that a change was needed, they changed out the dev team and that was that.
