Did you even watch the movie. Their were a few scenes in broad daylight. The opening scene had one when the Kaiju attacks San Francisco and one in Australia as well when you see the Australian Jaeger kick butt.

What everybody copies: Affirmation that anything that anyone does, no matter how abhorrent, is in the end forgiven - all the perpetrator has to do is ask for it. It's not that magic needs to be logical, it's just that it needs to be consistent. Unrestricted magic is boring and often tends to lead to plot holes, continuity errors, and deus ex machina. Having no consistency in the rules of a setting can ruin a story.
