I agree with you, but I also think that what parents value has a huge influence on their kids. I grew up hearing my father chiming in on the weight and appearance of every woman he talked about - his coworkers, my friends’ moms, his cousins. From a young age it convinced me that my worth was contingent on my physical

You’re right. However, the daughter thing does seem to bring out how galling sexism is.

I’m somewhat curious what he said back to her but how much do you want to bet it was just some “I’m sorry you were offended” bullshit.

It SHOULDN’T take a familial relationship to understand how to be a decent person. Unfortunately, it often does. :\

Fuck yeah!

She is excellent at goofball physical comedy, so the roles she has played often include that element. Other than that I wouldn’t say she has been typecast. (typecasted? typcassedted?)

For a lot of guys, it does, and not automatically either. This is the world we live in.

I have been #blessed enough to see her do improv, and she’s one of the smartest, funniest, quickest people out there. I would NOT want to get into a verbal sparring match with her.

Melissa McCarthy I feel a little sorry for, she is typecast so much. I have no idea what depth she has as she is asked to do same role in each movie. Kudos to her for this though, must be a ‘risk’ to go at a critic but shows her principle.

In Sweden we have this movement roughly translated to “No Thanks” where men are encouraged to say no thanks to participating in all male panels! I really like that idea, because it’s not just about encouraging women to say yes to participating - it’s about giving them room in the first place and to opening mens eyes

Can you believe it!? My favorite is the 9 all male speakers on enhancing Buddhist women’s leadership. Most important is calling people out on it. I let the convening groups know beforehand that I don’t attend conferences/ meetings if the speakers aren’t gender balanced, as it’s usually not as high quality. 90% of the

The point is not adding “token” women. The point is recognizing the knowledge and skills women abundantly have, and are equal to or exceed that of male panalist, and incorporate them equally into the world.

THERE GOES THAT PATRIARCHY, PATRIARCHIN AGAIN is a gem of an argument and all the commentary this needs.

The most annoying part is the knowledge that if these panels were all women, that fact would be addressed ad nauseam (as opposed to their knowledge or expertise). “Females in the Tech Industry Speak Out”. “Ladies’ Night Poverty Summit”. “Healthcare in the U.S.: Vagina Monologue Edition”.

When will people get it?! There is a very good reason for excluding women: Cooties. We be mad infected with The Cooties.

even some of our male students, who had some serious concerns

I’m totally positive tons of male students expressed serious concerns about dresses they were being shown. Totally positive.

I distinctly remember that this was also the dress code for dances when I was in school because people acted just as fucking dramatic about it then, too. They took dinosaurs instead of limos back then though.

How did you handle her comments and shit? I’d want to stare her right in the eyes as I ate a burrito.

I think we share a co-worker. These bitches always have to comment on what everyone is eating and how we SHOULD be on a diet. Eat, don’t eat, but mind your own damn business.
