I think any reason attributable to his actions probably comes from his lawyers. If he had to sit in a court room listening to women say he did something wrong to them, they’d need a defensive line to keep him off the stand.
My money’s on Gloria Allred filing defamation suits against him on Monday on behalf of the two accusers she represents. Nothing like standing in front of a national audience calling a private citizen a liar for daring to confirm actions to which you have already admitted to constitute grounds for defamation.
As a private citizen, I am not beholden to that standard in my opinions. Also, it is not my habit to suspend belief of people who claim that their cars have been stolen, although the false reports for grand theft auto (~10%) are more common that false reports of rape (~2%-8%).

All of that rings true to me. Part of the issue might be that my copy of Love in a Cold Climate is immediately preceeeded by Pursuit of Love, so the contrast between the stories couldn’t be more pressing.
