I find it very irritating that they couldn’t find ONE black woman to honor Aretha. Like it’s not that fucking hard. Aretha was a trail blazer in the industry and was on the front line of the civil rights movement. This was an opportunity to educate younger people on Aretha’s full contribution to American society.

Just cause it has funny moments doesn’t make it a comedy. It was as you said elsewhere, a one woman show. A great one woman show, but not a standup comedy show.

It can be both things. We can applaud her for her honesty and bravery in detailing very personal things AND we can concurrently sympathize with audience members who expected a traditional comedy show and ended up with something different.
