O_O

It is beyond my comprehension that some people actually believe that putting a young woman through something like this is their best choice. This is their version of pinning a scarlet letter on them. They are attempting to shame women into not having sex by waving all this scary stuff in their face "Abortion! Trail!

They know they'll get struck down. But there are three benefits in their eyes. 1) Looks good when running for office. 2) Jesus might like them more? (He won't) 3) It'll stop someone somewhere from getting the abortion they're legally allowed to get.

Because an unwanted child is just what the doctor & Jesus ordered.

Just...WHAT THE FUCK!

one of my favorite college classes commenced with a watching of Cinderella and subsequent lit-theory take down of all the tropes and problems. It was awesome to see one sorority girl identify cinderella's "yonic" leanings while another cried out that the multicolored critters helping her get dressed "just wanted to

I always thought his slow and lazy cousin was the racist part of that cartoon.

I am so damn happy that the original pieces of work are available and with an explanation of the context that they were made in. Disney, are you listening? I'll gladly pay for an edition of Song of the South, an excellent piece of work, with the in-context discussion of how this came out of the Uncle Remus stories

I'm going to optimistically hope that that was the intent of most of them, although unfortunately, the Internet has really nasty ways of surprising me.

Weird. I watched Dumbo, Hunchback and Pinocchio exactly once as a child and didn't like them. I told my parents they made me feel bad and scared and I've never watched them again.

If you think Dumbo is bad, you really need to see Song of the South. Its so bad that Disney has never released it on home media in North America.

I bet they had a lot of people spending a lot of time crafting that statement and I think what they came up with is really great.

Yeah, I thought this was a good solution. I love old cartoons and want to be able to watch them, but I also don't think it's ok to just show them without acknowledging that some of them are really fucked up. I don't get the problem with this.

I think this is the best way to do it. I am not for editing and censorship but i think a disclaimer, explaining that these things were made in a different time when views on race were a lot different than they are now is perfectly fine. It lets the origination work be released uncut. There is no reason why this should

This seems to me to be the best "make everyone happy" result. I suppose that's why people are unhappy. They can't handle the compromise.

Can this happen to Dumbo too?

Are the #childhoodruined Tweets possibly more of a response to seeing the cartoons one enjoyed as a child for what they really are—racist as hell?

Ffft. Next thing you'll be telling me that there's something offensive about Walt Dinsey's early attempt at Mickey Mouse's cousin, Schlomo the Rat.

It really is the best way to handle it. To erase it and present a sanitized version of the past would be false.

This is a good idea.
