Mg can be great but also shears and breaks off in chunks. Many magnesium pedals have failed. Me? I like aluminum and CF. That said, aluminum fails catastrophically. No material is perfect I guess.

If you're in the Detroit area, I highly recommend the Maker Faire! It's actually really cool (the SF Bay one anyway) and there are lots of wacky inventions and strange people to match. Entertaining if nothing else.
